\u201cBegin with the end in mind.\u201d \u2013 Stephen Covey<\/strong><\/p>\n

Last Sunday at 4:30 AM\u00a0I had a big \u201ca-ha\u201d moment while feeding baby Sofia on the couch.<\/p>\n

My client was looking to reinvent his business.<\/p>\n

He\u2019s making good money, but it\u2019s coming at the cost of his time and enormous logistical headaches.<\/p>\n

Frankly, he\u2019s too smart to work so hard for a million bucks a year.<\/p>\n

He sent me some ideas for 2024.<\/p>\n

As Sofia slurped, I mused.<\/p>\n

A lightbulb went off.<\/p>\n

My client was suffering from the same problem as the masses.<\/p>\n

The average person lives a reactionary life.<\/p>\n

They trade time for money and end up in a paycheck prison.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Color-coded calendars become golden handcuffs chaining them to work all day.<\/p>\n

Zoomin\u2019, meetin\u2019, time wastin\u2019, procrastinatin\u2019<\/em><\/p>\n

Tons of activity.<\/p>\n

Nothing accomplished.<\/p>\n

The average person thinks, \u201cHow can I make money\u2026 What job will make me rich?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u2026without thinking about how they will live their life.<\/p>\n

And so they end up as suicidal dentists hating life and treating (literally) foul mouths in exchange for $192,177 per year (according to Salary.com<\/a>).<\/p>\n

After taxes, $71 an hour (assuming a 2,000-hour work year and living in OC, California).<\/strong><\/p>\n

Um, no thanks.<\/p>\n

Fortunately, you can escape the matrix.<\/p>\n

How?<\/p>\n

They begin with the end in mind as Stephen Covey taught.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Back to my client\u2019s ideas for new businesses to start in 2024\u2026<\/p>\n

The problem was that he was only looking at business as the MEANS to the END.<\/p>\n

Going down any of the roads he proposed would simply put him back where he was now\u2026 dealing with regulatory and staffing nightmares, making similar amounts of money, and worse, working more than he was now. (Which simply wasn\u2019t acceptable given his family demands.)<\/p>\n

\u201cYou must flip your thinking,\u201d I said to him.<\/p>\n

Begin with the END in mind.<\/p>\n

Then build the Means to get there.<\/p>\n

Redo your ideas\u2026<\/p>\n

But start with these questions.<\/p>\n

What is the specific definition of success for your income?<\/p>\n

What is the specific definition of success for your work week?<\/p>\n

Both are questions covered in my latest Vision Training, a year-end training I ran with our private coaching clients.<\/p>\n

Reverse engineer your life.<\/p>\n

When you answer those questions\u2026<\/p>\n

You do what Stephen Covey says and you begin to get clear on your END goal\u2026<\/p>\n

And only then can you build the means to get there.<\/p>\n

So that you can have\u00a0the business and lifestyle you want.<\/p>\n

BTW\u2026 a year ago my good friend Jason Capital was in the same situation \u2013 working too much for not enough (despite it being a lot by most standards)\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n

In Jason\u2019s relentless pursuit of freedom, he had built himself a paycheck prison\u2026<\/p>\n

11 hours of Zoom meetings with team members almost daily\u2026<\/p>\n

The means to his end had become Golden Handcuffs.\u00a0<\/p>\n

This happens to so many of us\u2026<\/p>\n

We start out with simple goals like \u201cgetting rich\u201d or \u201cbecoming millionaires\u201d \u2026<\/p>\n

And then things spiral out of control.<\/p>\n

We say \u201cYES!\u201d to too many opportunities\u2026<\/p>\n

\u2026not examining the opportunity cost or the effective hourly rate of all our work.<\/p>\n

The next thing you know we\u2019re working 60 hours a week to run a business that pays our employees more money than us \u2026<\/p>\n

\u2026while they only work 40 hours a week\u2026 and can forget about work when they go home!<\/p>\n

In 2022, Jason reached out to me, Alex Hormozi, and Sharran Srivatsaa.<\/p>\n

He asked us a few questions to get our \u201coutside eyes\u201d on his talents and blind spots.<\/p>\n

Our answers helped Jason recognize the errors of his ways.<\/p>\n

He burnt that time-consuming business to the ground.<\/p>\n

Jason was a free man again.<\/p>\n

He built a new freedom business from scratch.<\/p>\n

But only after getting clear on exactly what he wanted life to look like.<\/p>\n

That meant writing copy, running a simple business, no meetings, NO managing, etc.<\/p>\n

His END goal was clear.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Now he started putting in place the means to get there.<\/p>\n

He assessed his skills.<\/p>\n

He studied what people were doing in the marketplace.<\/p>\n

He found an area where no one was playing\u2026 and where his skill set was perfectly poised to produce sensational results.\u00a0<\/p>\n

It required a lot of thinking time\u2026<\/p>\n

On the outside, it looked like nothing got done for a while.<\/p>\n

And he had a few false starts with some MEANS on the way even after he figured out the END.<\/p>\n

But eventually, he cracked the code.<\/p>\n

When I met him and Sharran Srivatsaa<\/a> for dinner at the Costa Mesa Mastro\u2019s in September, his face lit up.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy new business is doing over $100,000 a week on Clickbank. I have no employees. I work a few hours per day.\u201d<\/p>\n

We ordered Mastro\u2019s famous butter cake dessert to celebrate.<\/p>\n

When they arrived, Jason looked up at Sharran and I and smiled the smile of a free man.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve never been happier in my life.\u201d<\/p>\n

Because he followed the advice from Stephen Covey and began with the end in mind.<\/p>\n

Happiness comes from the freedom to pursue projects that light you up.<\/em><\/p>\n

What I\u2019ve done for Jason, I want to do for you, too.<\/p>\n
