I\u2019m writing this to you from New York City.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m here with my son, Hayden\u2014he\u2019s 17\u2014and we\u2019re scouting universities.<\/p>\n

And as I sit in this country, watching him walk through these towering campuses, full of ambition and wonder, I find myself reflecting on two stories I heard recently. Both American. Both powerful. Both true.\u00a0<\/p>\n

And both soul-stirring.\u00a0<\/p>\n

One happened in the 1920s.
The other, in the 1940s.
Two different men.
Two violent deaths.
Two lives that, through tragedy, reshaped a nation.<\/p>\n

And as I share these stories with you, I want you to notice what they awaken in your own heart.<\/p>\n

Because these are stories about legacy<\/em>.
Not the kind written in dollar signs\u2026
But the kind etched in making the RIGHT decision when it really counts.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Story 1: Easy Eddie and the price of redemption<\/h2>\n

We begin in Chicago.<\/p>\n

The year is 1920.
America is in the grip of Prohibition\u2014and Chicago is a city run by the underworld.<\/p>\n

At the center of it all: Al Capone<\/strong>.
The most feared man in the country.<\/p>\n

Capone was untouchable. His enemies ended up in the river. His critics disappeared. There\u2019s a story\u2014true story\u2014about how Capone once beat a man to death in the middle of a restaurant\u2026 with a baseball bat\u2026 because the man insulted him.<\/p>\n

No one dared call the police.
No one dared stand up.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s how powerful he was.<\/p>\n

But Capone\u2019s true power didn\u2019t come from his fists or his gun.
It came from one man:<\/p>\n

Easy Eddie.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Easy Eddie was Capone\u2019s personal lawyer.
And he wasn\u2019t just good. He was genius<\/em>.<\/p>\n

No matter what charges the government brought\u2014murder, bootlegging, racketeering\u2014Eddie made them vanish.
He knew how to manipulate the system so well, no one could touch Capone.<\/p>\n

And for his loyalty, he lived in unimaginable wealth.
Cars. Mansions. Clothes. Power.<\/p>\n

But behind the tailored suits and million-dollar smile\u2026
was a man who also happened to be a father.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Easy Eddie had a son.
A boy he loved more than anything else in the world.<\/p>\n

And that son would ask him\u2014<\/p>\n

\u201cDad\u2026 what do you do?\u201d<\/p>\n

Eddie couldn\u2019t give a straight answer.<\/p>\n

As the boy got older, the questions sharpened:<\/p>\n

\u201cWhere does all our money come from?\u201d<\/p>\n

Again\u2026 no answer.<\/p>\n

Easy Eddie could buy him the best schools. The finest shoes. The softest sheets.
But he couldn\u2019t give him the one thing that mattered:<\/p>\n

A father worth admiring.<\/strong><\/p>\n

And that truth\u2026 began to gnaw at him.<\/p>\n

He realized: I\u2019ve given my son everything\u2014except a good name.<\/em><\/p>\n

And one day, he made the most courageous decision of his life.<\/p>\n

He turned.<\/p>\n

He flipped on Capone.
He went to the authorities.
He testified in court.
His actions helped put some of the most dangerous men in America behind bars.<\/p>\n

And he knew\u2026
he knew\u2026
it would cost him everything.<\/p>\n

One day, while driving through Chicago, another car pulled up beside him.
Gunfire erupted.
Bullets tore through the steel.
Easy Eddie\u2019s car spun off the road.
His body was riddled with holes.<\/p>\n

He died alone.<\/p>\n

But in his pocket, the police found a folded piece of paper.<\/p>\n

A poem\u2014creased at the corners, worn from being read and reread.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe clock of life is wound but once,<\/em>
<\/em> And no man has the power<\/em>
<\/em> To tell just when the hands will stop,<\/em>
<\/em> At late or early hour.<\/em><\/p>\n

Now is the only time you own.<\/em>
<\/em> Live, love, toil with a will.<\/em>
<\/em> Place no faith in time\u2026<\/em>
<\/em> For the clock may soon be still.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

That\u2019s what he left behind.<\/p>\n

A man who chose truth over comfort.
A clean name over a corrupt fortune.
A legacy worth dying for.<\/p>\n

Story 2: The sky over the Pacific<\/h2>\n

Now, fast forward to the 1940s.
World War II.<\/p>\n

A young fighter pilot launches from the USS Lexington<\/strong>\u2014a massive aircraft carrier in the Pacific.<\/p>\n

Mid-mission, he\u2019s told to return. He\u2019s low on fuel. But as he circles back, he spots something.<\/p>\n

Nine Japanese bombers.<\/strong>
<\/strong> Headed straight for the Lexington.
Thousands of lives on board.<\/p>\n

He\u2019s alone.
No backup.
No bullets to spare.<\/p>\n

But he doesn\u2019t retreat.<\/p>\n

He charges.<\/p>\n
