German engineers.<\/li>\n<li>The optics? Swiss.<\/li>\n<li>The math? Indian.<\/li>\n<li>The cosmology that made it possible? Italian.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It wasn\u2019t just an American milestone.<br \/>It was a <strong>human<\/strong> one.<\/p>\n<p>So he designed a flag for the <strong>species<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/lh7-rt.googleusercontent.com\/docsz\/AD_4nXdanVcU4K_HqTRJnvxpSbaus5xVu5_tTJKFd6_vh5s-OYq4PhaKTCEcrgug6P7HK5qOHTRzJp4J-rvhQS8o07tYULDSQYWL-JgG4I83hCFuucq1ym2gPhgaSr3QEIdZnmpRtiIO?key=NMkdFwJJutKNnze2otTDeQ\"\/><noscript><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh7-rt.googleusercontent.com\/docsz\/AD_4nXdanVcU4K_HqTRJnvxpSbaus5xVu5_tTJKFd6_vh5s-OYq4PhaKTCEcrgug6P7HK5qOHTRzJp4J-rvhQS8o07tYULDSQYWL-JgG4I83hCFuucq1ym2gPhgaSr3QEIdZnmpRtiIO?key=NMkdFwJJutKNnze2otTDeQ\" alt=\"\"\/><\/noscript><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The Earth flag<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-why-symbols-matter\">Why symbols matter<\/h2>\n<p>Flags aren\u2019t just colored cloth.<br \/>They\u2019re <strong>identity made visible<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>They bind people into belonging.<br \/>They remind us who we are\u2014and who we care about.<\/p>\n<p>In <em>TRIBE<\/em>, author Sebastian Junger describes a study where Christians were more likely to give money to beggars, right after seeing a cross.<br \/>The symbol triggered compassion.<br \/>It reminded them of who they were.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s the power of symbols.<br \/>They bypass the intellect and speak straight to the soul.<\/p>\n<p>The Earth Flag does exactly that.<br \/>It\u2019s not a protest.<br \/>It\u2019s not a brand.<br \/>It\u2019s a reminder:<\/p>\n<p><em>You are part of something bigger.<\/em><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-darwin-s-forgotten-truth\">Darwin\u2019s forgotten truth<\/h2>\n<p>I believe the Earth flag represents the next evolution of humanity. Namely, the unification of human identity across political divisions and borders. And it turns out Darwin agrees.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Charles Darwin\u2014yes, survival-of-the-fittest Darwin\u2014also wrote about something far more poetic.<\/p>\n<p>It was called <strong>the Diffusion of Sympathy.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s what he said in <em>The Descent of Man<\/em> (1871):<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cAs man advances in civilization\u2026 he ought to extend his social instincts and sympathies to all the members of the same nation\u2026 and finally to the whole human race\u2026 until they are extended to all sentient beings.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Darwin believed empathy evolves\u2014that our moral circle expands as civilization matures.<\/p>\n<p>From self \u2192 to tribe \u2192 to nation \u2192 to all of humanity \u2192 to all life.<\/p>\n<p>The Earth Flag is the banner of that next step.<br \/>It\u2019s a symbol of a growing identity:<\/p>\n<p><strong>We are one species. And our biggest global decisions\u2014from climate to migration to peace\u2014must come from Earth-consciousness, not blind nationalism.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-astronauts-call-it-the-overview-effect\">Astronauts call it the \u201coverview effect\u201d<\/h2>\n<p>In my interview with Oskar, I asked him:\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWhat kind of feeling are you hoping this flag evokes?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>His answer:<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWhen astronauts view Earth from space, something profound happens.<\/em><em><br \/><\/em><em>They describe a sudden shift in perspective \u2014 a life-altering realization that borders are imaginary, and that all life is fragile, connected, and shared.<\/em><em><br \/><\/em><em>It\u2019s called the Overview Effect.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Earth Flag brings that cosmic perspective <strong>down to Earth<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>As Oskar said on stage:<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cBehind this flag, there is no religion. No ideology.<\/em><em><br \/><\/em><em>Just a visual representation of Earth.<\/em><em><br \/><\/em><em>But in that simplicity\u2026 it holds everything.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-a-symbol-becomes-real\">How a symbol becomes real<\/h2>\n<p>Oskar shared the story of another iconic flag: the rainbow <strong>Pride Flag<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>First flown in 1978, it became a global symbol not because a government declared it official, but because <strong>people adopted it<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>They wore it.<br \/>Tattooed it.<br \/>Flew it.<br \/>Marched with it.<br \/>Until it became more than an image\u2014it became a shared identity.<\/p>\n<p>The Earth Flag is on the same path.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s already been:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Flown on <strong>refugee boats<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Planted on <strong>Antarctica and Everest<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Raised in <strong>climate marches<\/strong> around the world<\/li>\n<li>Tattooed on the bodies of people who <em>just knew it mattered<\/em><\/li>\n<li>And officially recognized by <strong>the town of Ridgway, Colorado<\/strong>, where it now flies permanently beside the U.S. flag<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>And starting now, <strong>Mindvalley will fly the Earth Flag at all our global events<\/strong>, as a an institution.<br \/>You just need to care.<\/p>\n<p>Fly it at events.<br \/>Hang it in your home.<br \/>Wear it on Earth Day.<br \/>Print it on your wall.<br \/>Or let it quietly live in your heart.<\/p>\n<p>Because every time this flag is seen, flown, or shared\u2026<br \/>It becomes a reminder:<\/p>\n<p>You\u2019re not just from a country.<br \/>You\u2019re from
