There\u2019s no correct answer to that question \u2014 what\u2019s right for one person may not be right for you. You might deny yourself something you\u2019ve always wanted so that you can save for your future. You might work long hours to further your career, even though you\u2019d rather spend time with your family. Or you might pass up a second helping of cake because you know it\u2019s not good for you. (Oh no!) The point being, you can\u2019t have your cake and eat it too. While most choices that you make may be small \u2014 and don\u2019t attract a lot of attention \u2014 over time, the cumulative impact of those <a href=\"https:\/\/www.franksonnenbergonline.com\/blog\/make-good-choices\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">choices<\/a> is significant. Make good choices and judge your successes by the sacrifices made to achieve them.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s a list of choices that you make every day. Are you aware of the trade-offs that you\u2019re making? Every decision carries its own set of sacrifices, whether you notice them or not.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>Self-esteem. <\/strong><\/span>Do you try to <em>make yourself proud<\/em> or seek the acceptance of others?<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>Outlook. <\/strong><\/span>Do you believe <a href=\"https:\/\/www.franksonnenbergonline.com\/blog\/how-cant-and-wont-shape-your-life\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>anything\u2019s possible<\/em><\/a> or feel like you\u2019re doomed from the start?<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>Desires. <\/strong><\/span>Do you <em>invest for the future<\/em> or seek instant gratification?<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>Integrity. <\/strong><\/span>Do you <em>do what\u2019s right<\/em> or what\u2019s easy?<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>Personal responsibility. <\/strong><\/span>Do you <em>fend for yourself<\/em> or depend on others for support?<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>Risk appetite. <\/strong><\/span>Do you <em>explore new opportunities<\/em> or let your fears stop you?<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>Embrace change.<\/strong><\/span> Do you <em>challenge the status quo<\/em> or rest on your laurels?<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>Priorities. <\/strong><\/span>Do you make <em>family time<\/em> or \u201cme time\u201d your priority?<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>Gratitude. <\/strong><\/span>Do you <em>appreciate the wonderful things<\/em> in your life or take things for granted?<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>Work. <\/strong><\/span>Do you <em>strive for excellence<\/em> or settle for good?<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>Goal setting. <\/strong><\/span>Do you <em>create stretch goals<\/em> or lower the bar so that it\u2019s easy to clear?<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>Success mindset.<\/strong><\/span> Do you <em>make big strides with small steps<\/em> or chase get-rich-quick schemes?<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>Work ethic. <\/strong><\/span>Do you <a href=\"https:\/\/www.franksonnenbergonline.com\/blog\/25-actions-that-shout-strong-work-ethic\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>work hard<\/em><\/a> or do just enough to get by?<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>Winning strategy. <\/strong><\/span>Do you <em>create<\/em> <em>win-win relationships<\/em> or try to win at all costs?<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Personal development.<\/span> <\/strong>Do you <em>invest<\/em> <em>in your personal growth<\/em> or expect others to spoon-feed you?<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>Personal growth. <\/strong><\/span>Do you <em>welcome negative feedback<\/em> or view critique as a slap in the face?<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>Generosity. <\/strong><\/span>Do you <em>act <a href=\"https:\/\/www.franksonnenbergonline.com\/blog\/are-you-selfless-or-selfish\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">selflessly<\/a><\/em> or selfishly?<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>Relationships. <\/strong><\/span>Do you <em>possess quality, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.franksonnenbergonline.com\/blog\/is-your-friend-really-an-acquaintance\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in-depth relationships<\/a><\/em> or pursue casual friendships?<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Open-minded.<\/span> <\/strong>Do you consider yourself <em>receptive to new ideas<\/em> or are you closed-minded?<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>Frame of mind. <\/strong><\/span>Do you <em>live for today<\/em> or are you a prisoner of your past?<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>Rewards. <\/strong><\/span>Do you <em>recognize when enough is enough<\/em> or continually seek more?<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>Values. <\/strong><\/span>Do you <em>abide by your principles<\/em> or compromise your personal standards?<\/p>\n<p>Every choice you make will affect you <em>today<\/em> as well as <em>tomorrow \u2014 <\/em>but the long-term impact may not always be clear. In fact, even though you may benefit today, your choice may come back to bite you one day.
