Anddddd we\u2019re back with another installment of Joel knocking things off his impossible list.<\/p>\n

Usually this involves me doing something cool and having a great montage video to show you guys and looking cool (these are pretty fun to do).<\/p>\n

Sometimes, it involves me falling flat on my face (these aren\u2019t as much fun).<\/p>\n

Well, you\u2019re in luck \u2013 today we have a big serving of option #2.<\/p>\n

This was supposed to be \u201cJoel does well at the Mothership\u201d \u2013 Joe Rogan\u2019s new club in Austin \u2013 but instead, you get to see me bomb \u2013 with about 300,000 viewers online.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s what went down.<\/p>\n

The Backstory<\/h2>\n

I\u2019ve been messing around with comedy on the impossible list for a while now. I\u2019ve actually done a bunch of places from Austin to Lisbon to Portland and Chicago and more.\u00a0<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve done a few featured sets but haven\u2019t posted much content (I\u2019ve seen comics say you shouldn\u2019t post anything for the first 3 years). I don\u2019t know if that\u2019s too much, but at this point, I think I have some acceptable material and I know what works and what doesn\u2019t so far. USUALLY. This doesn\u2019t mean I kill it \u2013 but I have bits that work and bits that I\u2019m trying out.<\/p>\n

Kill Tony is a show where you come up and do a minute of your material, then you talk about it with whoever is on stage and Tony Hinchcliffe will usually make fun of you in some way.<\/p>\n

My plan was to do one of the jokes I\u2019ve had the longest \u2013 about therapy \u2013 but the problem is that over time \u2013 the joke is a mini-set (it can do 5 minutes). The problem is, you only get 1 minute on Kill Tony. I tried to cut it down to fit the time slot \u2013 but that was a bad decision. I ended up with all setup and no joke :).<\/p>\n

Honestly, I\u2019ve done rooms with a few thousand people before and for some reason (I\u2019ll dig into my psyche later), I got super nervous running from the alley to the stage. I froze a little bit, and I knew my joke was already going to run long so I was playing catch up and never hit the punchline.<\/p>\n

As Tony said \u2013 I just chewed all the fat off the joke. Nom nom nom nom nom nom.<\/p>\n

Transparently \u2013 I think this might be the worst public speaking thing I\u2019ve done in\u2026.ten years? Maybe, ever?<\/p>\n

It was bad \ud83d\ude42<\/strong><\/p>\n

I\u2019ll break down more about what happened when I have a chance to watch it. I literally spent the next week every night waking up with a shiver remembering that this actually happened. Ugh this is gonna be bad.<\/p>\n

You can watch the behind the scenes (I had been 10 times and resigned myself to the fact I wasn\u2019t gonna get pulled). Of course, that\u2019s the day that it actually happens.<\/p>\n
