We can re-examine our routines and focus on our aims. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What does a <a href=\"https:\/\/gretchenrubin.com\/articles\/try-using-labor-day-as-a-catalyst-to-think-about-your-work-life-happierlaborday\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">happier Labor Day<\/a> look like for you? <\/span>If you\u2019re looking for ways to make your work life happier, healthier, more productive, and more creative, consider these suggestions:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Deepen your work relationships.<\/strong> Could you turn a work acquaintance into a friend? Could you repair any strained relationships? Could you re-connect a work friend whom you haven\u2019t seen in a while?<br \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Improve your tools<\/strong>. Work is easier when we have good tools. Do you need a new laptop, updated software, better headphones? Even something as simple as a better pen can make a difference. I love my extra monitors; they save me so much time and effort.<br \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Tailor your surroundings to suit yourself<\/strong>. Figure out if you need more light, a better chair, less noise, etc. If you\u2019re feeling overwhelmed by clutter, my book <em><a href=\"https:\/\/gretchenrubin.com\/books\/outer-order-inner-calm\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Outer Order, Inner Calm<\/a><\/em>\u00a0has dozens of suggestions for easy ways to create order.<br \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gretchenrubin.com\/articles\/we-must-have-treats-heres-why\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Create a list of healthy treats<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0to give you a boost of energy or cheer when you need it. Listening to new music, playing Wordle, taking a quick walk outside\u2026what works for you?<br \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/gretchenrubin.com\/articles\/want-to-boost-your-happiness-learn-something-new\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Cultivate an atmosphere of growth<\/strong>.<\/a>\u00a0We\u2019re happier when we\u2019re growing, so learn a new skill, challenge yourself to do something intimidating (such as public speaking), or start a side hustle.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Acknowledge your preferences.<\/strong> Are you a <a href=\"https:\/\/gretchenrubin.com\/articles\/quiz-are-you-a-finisher-or-an-opener\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">finisher or opener?<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gretchenrubin.com\/articles\/are-you-a-marathoner-a-sprinter-a-procrastinator-weigh-in\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Marathoner or sprinter?<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/gretchenrubin.com\/articles\/are-you-a-lark-or-an-owl\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Morning person or night person?<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gretchenrubin.com\/articles\/are-you-more-drawn-to-simplicity-or-to-abundance\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Abundance-lover or simplicity-lover?<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/gretchenrubin.com\/articles\/abstainer-vs-moderator\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Abstainer or moderator?<\/a>\u00a0Try to adjust your schedule and surroundings to suit yourself, as much as possible. Because I know I\u2019m a morning person, I schedule all my most difficult tasks first thing in the day.<br \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Use tracking tools<\/strong>. We manage what we monitor, so to make progress, consider tools that will help you maintain momentum. You might try <a href=\"https:\/\/thehappierapp.com\/?utm_campaign=article-work-routines&amp;utm_source=gr&amp;utm_medium=web\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the <em>Happier\u2122<\/em> app<\/a>, a physical journal like the <a href=\"https:\/\/the-happiness-project.com\/collections\/all\/products\/dont-break-the-chain-habit-tracker?utm_campaign=article-work-routines&amp;utm_source=gr&amp;utm_medium=web\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Don\u2019t Break the Chain Habit Tracker<\/em><\/a>, or a <a href=\"https:\/\/gretchenrubin.com\/resources\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">worksheet<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Tackle digital clutter and distractions<\/strong>. Unsubscribe from unwanted newsletters, write any emails you can draft in less than a minute, delete unneeded messages, delete unused apps.<br \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Schedule a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2019\/04\/05\/gretchen-rubin-the-weekend-habit-that-will-increase-your-productivity.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">weekend Power Hour<\/a> <\/strong>to stay on top of personal chores and errands. Little by little, we can get a lot accomplished.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In the tumult of everyday life, it can be hard to step back to ask, \u201cWhat changes might make my work life easier?
