Question:
“You stated that in our current state as a species, we need a new spiritual revolution.
However, if religion served as a morality implementer, what then is the purpose of spirituality?
Will it be able to replicate the moral demands as mandated by religion?
What is the role of spirituality in modern society and how does it change from religion?”
Response:
I see spirituality as living life according to the experience and understanding of the presence of awareness within.
Our true self is the source of love, creativity, intelligence, and happiness.
As we enliven these values in our lives, we transform our minds, bodies, and social interactions.
This is how spirituality creates a revolution from the inside out.
It does not necessarily replicate religious morality.
Orthodox religion as we currently see it, is largely a set of external prescriptions that have been laid down in the past of what to do or not do, believe in or not believe in order to receive divine blessings or forgiveness.
No doubt many people find great benefit in their religions, but until we are able to go beyond these external dos and don’ts to discover the source of this religious guidance in our own awareness, then we won’t be able to transcend the dissension, disagreements, and conflicts of orthodox religions.
